Hamadan :

Township of Hamadan spreads from the crest of the Alvand Mountains to the eastern border of the province; It stretches from 49 degrees and 27 minutes longitude in the east to 48 degrees and 20 minutes in the west and lies between 34 25’ and 35 degrees north latitude. Its neighbors are Razan and Kaboodarahang in the north, Tooserkan and Malayer in the south, Markazi province in the east and township of Bahar in the west. The crest of Alvand Mountains in the south makes up the natural border between Hamadan and Tooserkan and Hamadan, Qahavand, Nashr and some parts of Razan and Famenin fields lie in between. The highest point in Hamadan is the peak of Mount Alvand with an altitude of 3584 meters above the sea level and the deepest lands are in Omr Abad with altitudes of about 1600 meters in which the Qarre Tchai river flows. This township has an average altitude of about 1820 m. above the sea level, according to 1375 census has a population of 563466 people and a density of 136.8 person per square kilometers, and consists of 5 cities: Hamadan, Marbanaj, Famenin, Joorqan and Qahavand, 3 districts and 12 rural regions. Main language of urban areas is Farsi, but rural population mostly speaks Turkish.

Malayer :

This township extends from 34 degrees to 34 40’ latitude and 48 24’ to 49 8’ longitude, and is located to the south of Hamadan province and borders Hamadan township in the north, Tooserkan and Nahavand in the west, Boroojerd in the south and Arak in the east. It has an elevation of 1750 meters above the sea level and it is 86 and 390 kilometers from Hamadan and Tehran, respectively. Alvand Mountains pass from north to northwest of this township and connect to Rasvand Mountains in Arak. The highest point of this township is the Lashkardar peak with an altitude of 2928 meters. Garmeh and Sardeh peaks with altitudes of 2206 and 2277 are also located in this township. Haramabad, the most prominent river in Malayer, is a seasonal river; Vegetation in here is mostly piedmont step, the area has a moderate mountainous climate and the average annual rainfall is approximately 242 millimeters. Township of Malayer, with an area of 3210 square kilometers, is consisted of 3 cities: Malayer, Samen and Azandarban, three districts: Markazi, Jokar and Samen, fifteen rural regions and 225 villages an as of 1375 had 297062 inhabitants with an average density of 92.5 person per square kilometers. The spoken language here is mainly Farsi, but some speak an accent which is a mixture of Lori, Kurdish and Farsi. 62.5% of the population live in the rural areas and are mostly farmers, and the dominant religion is Shiite.

Nahavand :

Nahavand township is located to the southwest of the province in the northern foot of Garo Mountains and stretches from 39 33’ to 34 26’ latitude and 47 53’ to 48 33’ longitude. It borders Tooserkan in the north, Alashtar and Noorabad (in Lorestan) in the south and Malayer and Boroojerd in the east and Kangavar in the west. Its altitude is about 1704 m above the sea level and the lowest point in the township is 1420 m at the river Gamasiab’s exit point from Hamadan province, which is also the lowest point in the province. The highest point of the township is Mount Gareen, the section overlooking mouth of river Gamasiab, with an altitude of 3188 m above the sea level. Garo mountains are the only high points of the township belonging to Zagros Mountains; The Zagros Fault which is one of the main active faults of Iran also passes through the northern edges of Garo mountains. Nahavand has a mostly moderate mountainous climate, with relatively cold winters and warm summers; This township has the least freezing days throughout Hamadan province. Besides, Nahavand has very rich underground water resources and thus the agriculture is developing; Its area is 1535 square kilometers and is consisted of 2 cities: Nahavand and Firoozan, 2 districts: Markazi and Khazal, 7 rural regions and 182 villages, total population of which reached 184160 in 1375, with a density of 120 person per square kilometers. The spoken language is chiefly Farsi and the dominant dialects are Lori and Kurdish, and the religion is Shiite.

Tooserkan :

Tooserkan spreads between 34 20’ and 34 46’ latitude and 48 3’ and 48 35’ longitude and its neighbors are Hamadan, Asadabad and a part of Bahar to the north, Malayer to the east, Kangavar (of the Kermanshah province) to the west and Nahavand to the south. The highest point of this township is Mount Alvand with an altitude of 3574 m which is also the intersection of this township and Hamadan township; The lowest point is the Karkhaneh village which is 1555 m above the sea level, and the average elevation is 1784 m. The climate is moderate mountainous and the important rivers are Qalqalrood and Khoramrood, which start in Alvand heights. Qalqalrood branches are Karzanrood, Serkanrood and the river Sarabi which are used in farming and the rest of the water goes to river Gamasiab. Tooserkan has 3 cities: Tooserkan, Serkan and Farasfaj, 2 districts of Markazi and Qalqalrood, 7 rural regions and 111 villages and according to 1375 census has 118954 inhabitants with a density of 74.4 person per square kilometers. Its people are Shiites and mostly speak Farsi but some of the villages near Kermanshah and Nahavand speak Kurdish and Lori dialects and a few speak Turkish.

Asadabad :

This township having an altitude of 1607 above the sea level is located in the west of Hamadan province, and borders a part of Kermanshah in south and west, Bahar in the east and Tooserkan in southeast. Asadabad stretches from 34 46’ to 34 59’ latitude and from 47 47’ to 48 16’ longitude and has an area of 1195 square kilometers and had a population of over 110077 people in 1375. The population density is 92.1 person per square kilometers. The township has one district (Markazi), one city (Asadabad) and 7 rural regions. Most of its people speak Farsi but the rural areas surrounding the city speak Turkish. Villages near Kermanshah and Kurdistan use Kurdish dialect too. The main religion is Shiite.

Kaboodarahang :

Kaboodarahang has an area of 3816 square kilometers, a population of 152813 people with a density of 40 person per square kilometers, which is the lowest density in Hamadan province. This township is spread between 47 42’ and 48 54’ eastern longitude and the 35 1’ and 35 43’ northern latitude in the northern areas of Hamadan province. This township borders on part of Zanjan province in the north, Bahar township in the south, Hamadan township in the southeast, Razan in the east and a part of Kurdistan province in the west, and elevates 1780 meters above the sea level. Temperature differences between summer and winter are very high. The township has one city, 3 districts and 11 rural regions. Most of the inhabitants are Shiite and speak Turkish, although Farsi is common too.

Bahar :

Bahar lies in between 48 7’ and 48 41’ eastern longitude and 34 46’ and 35 9’ northern latitude, and spreads to Kaboodarahang in the north, Hamadan in the east, Asadabad and a part of Kurdistan in the west and Hamadan in the south; It also has a small border with Tooserkan in the south. The peak of the township is 2964 m above the sea level and the lowest point is 1700 m above sea level, leading to an average altitude of about 1735 m. Bahar was a district until 1372. It has an area of 1334 square kilometers which covers 3 cities (Bahar, Laljin and Salehabad), 3 districts (Markazi, Laljin and Salehabad), 6 rural regions and 71 villages and had a total population of 127635 people and a density of 95.7 as of 1375. The dominant religion is Shiite and though most of the people are Azari, Farsi is common and a few villages near Kurdistan speak Kurdish.

Laljin :

The city of Laljin stretches from 33 40’ to 34 36’ northern latitude and 47 to 47 41’ eastern longitude, and it is a part of Bahar township. It is 21 kilometers to northeast of Hamadan, 15 kilometers to the south of Jamshidabad and Taherloo villages, and 13 kilometers to the west of Soleimanabad and Dehanjard. Laljin has an average elevation of 1789 above the sea level, an area of 3.4 square kilometers, a population of 13963 people. Total area of the city and the surrounding villages is 508 square kilometers and the total population is over 55397 people, with a density of 109 person per square kilometers. The main language here is Turkish, but Farsi is spoken too.

Razan :

Township of Razan lies in a flat field, with productive lands and beautiful landscapes and is located on the main road from Tehran to Hamadan, 81 kilometers to the north of Hamadan, between 48 32’ and 49 27’ longitude and 35 10’ and 35 44’ latitude. This township has an area of 2729 square kilometers, a population of 123790 people with a density of 45.4 person per square kilometers. Razan consists of 3 cities (Razan, Qorveh Darjzain and Domaq), 3 districts (Markazi, Sardrood, Qorveh Darjazin), 7 rural regions and 130 villages. Most of the population speak Turkish, but Farsi is common too. Razan was promoted from district to city in 1368, and then was promoted from city to township in 1373 and has its own governor. This township stretches to Qazvin province to the north, Hamadan to the south, Markazi province to the east and Kaboodarahang to the west. The highest point of this township is located 2898 above sea level in Kharqan Mountains (northeast of the township) and the lowest point has an altitude of 1720.
